Solo Commissioning at Peña Colorada Mine, Mexico

WipWare Solo conveyor particle size analysis system at Peña Colorada Mine, Mexico

In March 2019, WipWare representatives Thomas Palangio and Thomas de Sousa visited Peña Colorada Mine in Minatitlán, Colima, Mexico, to install and commission a Solo Online Conveyor Particle Size Analysis System. The installation included establishing network connectivity and calibrating the system against sieve analysis data, enabling real-time particle size monitoring at the processing plant.

Following installation, the Solo system was connected to the Peña Colorada network and began collecting real-time particle size data. Sieve analysis results were used to calibrate the system, helping align its measurements with the operation’s material characteristics and reporting requirements. The commissioning also included training on WipFrag 3.2, which served as the system’s human-machine interface (HMI).

Peña Colorada later highlighted the value of WipWare’s real-time fragmentation monitoring technology in supporting autogenous grinding performance:

“WipWare technology allows us to measure, monitor and control the distribution of size, shape, uniformity and volume of iron ore that feeds autogenous grinding, in real-time. This improves AG mill performance and increases milling efficiency, productivity and profit.” — Rubí Enciso Pérez, Peña Colorada

With the help from the Peña Colorada team, WipWare representatives, Thomas Palangio and Thomas de Sousa, successfully completed the installation of the Solo System. The data quality generated from the Solo system is of excellent quality and the system has been successfully calibrated through sieve analyses to generate accurate and relevant size and volume data on the conveyor line. Moving forward, the Solo system will prove to be a highly effective tool to measure material size and shape telemetry in real-time.

The story continues in 2020 with another WipWare system installation at Peña Colorada.
