Solo Commissioning at SEMAFO Mana Mine, Burkina Faso

WipWare Solo conveyor particle size analysis system at SEMAFO Mana Mine, Burkina Faso

In 2018, WipWare Technical Officer Thomas Palangio and Technical Specialist Marty Wanner travelled to Burkina Faso to install and commission a Solo Online Conveyor Particle Size Analysis System at Mana Gold Mine. At the time of the installation, Mana Mine was operated by SEMAFO, which was subsequently acquired by Endeavour Mining in July 2020.

The Solo system was installed to provide automated particle size measurements and volumetric data to support material monitoring and process optimization.

Working alongside the SEMAFO team, WipWare reviewed the installation location and verified that the necessary equipment and infrastructure were ready for commissioning.

The team collected a belt-cut sample for sieve analysis and used a calibration image to calculate the system’s edge-detection parameters. These adjustments supported accurate particle identification and size measurement under the site’s operating conditions.

In addition to particle size distribution, SEMAFO requested volumetric measurements. WipWare configured the system to provide these values alongside the fragmentation data, expanding the information available for process monitoring.

Following the necessary adjustments, the Solo system was successfully commissioned and began collecting real-time measurement data.

WipWare thanks the SEMAFO team for their hospitality and assistance throughout the installation and commissioning process.
