High-resolution drone imagery for mineral detection and site analysis.

On-demand particle measurement and fragmentation analysis software

Measure particles from images — anywhere, anytime

WipFrag™ turns digital images into quantitative particle data for field, laboratory, drone and other imaging workflows. Measure particle size distribution, shape and colour quickly and consistently, with specialized tools for fragmentation analysis and rock-mass characterization.

Built on more than 40 years of fragmentation measurement expertise, WipFrag gives operators, engineers, researchers and technicians practical data for evaluating materials, comparing results and making better-informed decisions.

How WipFrag Fits in the Process

WipFrag provides flexible, on-demand measurement across the mining and aggregates workflow, from in-situ rock and blast results through stockpiles, crushing and process sampling. It helps operations turn visual material differences into quantitative data that can be used to:

  • Evaluate blast fragmentation by measuring particle size distributions from muckpiles, stopes and other exposed blasted material.
  • Identify oversize and fragmentation variability before material moves further through loading, hauling or crushing.
  • Compare material between process stages using consistent measurements from muckpiles, stockpiles, crusher feed, crushed product and other accessible material.
  • Benchmark and optimize blasting by comparing fragmentation results between blast designs, locations, geological conditions and operating parameters.
  • Assess larger blasts and stockpiles from the air using UAV imagery where broader coverage is required.
  • Characterize the rock mass before blasting with WipJoint to understand in-situ conditions that may influence fragmentation.
  • Plan and evaluate future blasts using BlastCast to compare predicted and measured fragmentation and test changes to blast parameters.

What WipFrag Does

WipFrag analyzes particles and material characteristics from digital images, providing fast, repeatable measurements for field, laboratory and research applications.

Depending on the image and application, WipFrag can provide:

  • Particle size distribution (PSD) from visible particles in digital images
  • Automatic scaling and slope detection along with multiple scaling methods for practical measurement in real-world capture conditions
  • Drone-image and orthomosaic analysis for large areas, stockpiles, blasts and other suitable aerial applications
  • Shape measurement for additional insight into particle characteristics
  • Colour measurement and differentiation to compare visible material characteristics
  • Result comparison, reporting and mapping tools to track measurements between samples, tests, projects, locations or operating conditions
  • Rock-mass characterization with WipJoint including joint orientation, spacing, persistence, RQD and estimated in-situ block size
  • BlastCast predictive blast modelling to compare predicted and measured fragmentation, calibrate the model and evaluate how changes to blast parameters may affect future results

Why WipFrag is Trusted Worldwide

WipFrag combines decades of fragmentation-analysis experience with practical tools for fast, repeatable particle measurement from digital images.

  • Backed by more than 40 years of development and real-world data
  • Proven across mining, aggregates, industrial materials and research applications

UAV fragmentation assessment

Enaex Tharisa Mine uses UAV imagery and WipFrag to support rapid, safe, and quantitative blast fragmentation assessment.

UAVs are highly useful in blasting fragmentation assessment because they allow the blasted muckpile to be surveyed rapidly and safely, with high-resolution imagery that can be processed into quantitative fragmentation data. A typical workflow is: Blast → UAV survey → image processing → orthomosaic → WipFrag analysis → fragmentation distribution → blast optimisation. I would like to thank you for your support and guidance with regard to the WipWare Inc. application.

Engineering design support

WipWare helped support a particle size distribution (PSD) evaluation using scaled pile photos instead of costly heavy-equipment sampling and screening.

“An oil sands plant asked me to provide a particular size evaluation on a mine ore feed screen rejects (over size)… They wanted me to arrange to collect samples using heavy equipment, utilize screens, evaluate tons of material and provide the data. Very costly and labour intensive activity. I found WipWare, took some photos of the pile at different places… A few dollars later, we had a PSD for engineering design.”
