On March 12, 2019, WipWare Technical Specialist Marty Wanner arrived at Agnico Eagle's Meliadine<\/a><\/strong> gold mine in Nunavut, Canada, to commission a Solo Online Conveyor Particle Size Analysis System<\/a><\/strong>. The visit included verifying the existing installation, confirming system connectivity, calibrating particle size measurements against sieve analysis data, and providing technical training to mine personnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Located approximately 25 kilometres north of Rankin Inlet in Nunavut's Kivalliq Region, Meliadine was preparing to enter commercial gold production when WipWare visited in March 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Solo system had been installed by the Meliadine team before WipWare's arrival. Following a review of the control room configuration and equipment installation, Marty confirmed system connectivity and proceeded with calibration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To calibrate the Solo system, a belt-cut sample was collected for sieve analysis. The resulting particle size distribution was compared with the measurements produced by Solo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because optical particle size analysis measures material visible on the conveyor surface, differences can occur between these measurements and traditional sieve analysis of a bulk sample. Calibration helps account for these differences, including the influence of fines that may not be visible to the camera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Using the comparative results, Marty successfully calibrated the Solo system to the material and operating conditions at Meliadine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following calibration, WipWare provided a training session covering the Solo system's calibration process and the features of WipFrag<\/a><\/strong> software, including its application to blast fragmentation analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The visit concluded with the Solo system successfully commissioned and personnel familiarized with its operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In October 2019, WipWare successfully commissioned a Solo Online Conveyor Particle Size Analysis System<\/a><\/strong> at BHP's Jimblebar Mine in Western Australia. Working alongside BHP and Downer personnel, WipWare's Technical Specialist completed the system setup, verified functionality, and established real-time particle size monitoring to support fragmentation measurement and process optimization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team met on the first day for a safety discussion and to visit the location where the Solo System would be installed. Our Technical Specialist also reviewed the installation steps. BHP and the Downer team installed the Solo System and Hood while our specialist concentrated on the camera, verified functionality and collected sample images for setup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the set up was completed, a product demonstration\u00a0and a quick tutorial\u00a0with\u00a0WipFrag<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0software was done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The data quality generated from the Solo system is of excellent quality and the system has been successfully calibrated through sieve analyses to generate accurate and relevant size and volume data on the conveyor line. Moving forward, the Solo system will prove to be a highly effective tool to measure material size and shape telemetry in real-time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2018, WipWare Technical Officer Thomas Palangio and Technical Specialist Marty Wanner travelled to Burkina Faso to install and commission a Solo Online Conveyor Particle Size Analysis System<\/a><\/strong> at Mana Gold Mine<\/a><\/strong>. At the time of the installation, Mana Mine was operated by SEMAFO, which was subsequently acquired by Endeavour Mining in July 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Solo system was installed to provide automated particle size measurements and volumetric data to support material monitoring and process optimization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February 2019, WipWare Technical Specialists Marty Wanner and Thomas de Sousa completed commissioning of a three-camera Momentum Online Conveyor Particle Size Analysis System at Detour Lake Mine<\/a><\/strong> in northeastern Ontario, Canada. Following an initial installation visit in December 2018, the team returned to commission the third camera and calibrate all three systems, establishing real-time particle size monitoring at the gold processing operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Detour Lake Mine is located in northeastern Ontario, approximately 300 kilometres northeast of Timmins and 185 kilometres by road northeast of Cochrane, within the Abitibi Greenstone Belt. At the time of WipWare's installation, the operation was owned by Detour Gold Corporation. The mine subsequently became part of Agnico Eagle Mines<\/a><\/strong> in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With assistance from the Detour Gold team, WipWare completed commissioning of the third Momentum camera and successfully calibrated all three systems during the February visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following commissioning, the three cameras were collecting real-time particle size data, providing the operation with continuous measurements of material size and shape on its conveyors. Some of the new Momentum cameras were installed to replace older WipWare systems like the Solo 3 system pictured above just behind the newer Momentum system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Working alongside Hanson personnel and WipWare's Australian reseller, Micron Scientific Australia<\/a><\/strong>, the team completed system calibration and commissioning, establishing real-time particle size monitoring across three conveyor measurement locations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The three Momentum 5 camera assemblies had been installed before WipWare's arrival. Because the systems were operating outdoors, sunlight canopies were installed to prevent direct sunlight from entering the analysis field and affecting measurement consistency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During commissioning, WipWare verified camera connectivity, completed calibration, and used sample material on the conveyors to confirm camera focus. All three measurement locations were successfully commissioned and began collecting real-time particle size data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Glen Blackstock of Micron Scientific Australia Pty Ltd., WipWare's local Value Added Reseller, also participated in the installation. Following commissioning, Hanson personnel received training on WipFrag, which served as the system's human-machine interface (HMI).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The completed installation provided Hanson with continuous measurements of material size and shape, supporting the identification of changes in conveyor material and providing information that could be used for process monitoring and optimization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In January 2020, WipWare technician Thomas de Sousa visited Pe\u00f1a Colorada<\/a><\/strong> in Mexico to commission a two-camera Momentum 5 Particle Size Analysis System. The installation expanded WipWare's presence at the iron ore operation, adding real-time particle size monitoring<\/a><\/strong> at two conveyor locations to support material characterization and process optimization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pe\u00f1a Colorada was already using WipWare technology following the installation of a Solo 5 system in 2019<\/a><\/strong>. During the January 2020 visit, Thomas de Sousa also investigated software and connectivity issues affecting the existing Solo system. After inspecting the equipment, the team determined that the camera head would be returned to WipWare for further troubleshooting and repair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new Momentum 5 installation consisted of two camera assemblies positioned above separate conveyor belts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following an inspection of the preliminary installations, the Momentum frames were assembled and the electrical and network connections verified. The camera assemblies were then installed and calibrated to the site's operating conditions.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Both systems were successfully commissioned and began collecting real-time particle size data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The following day, WipWare provided training to Pe\u00f1a Colorada personnel, familiarizing the team with the new equipment and its operation.<\/p>\n<\/div>

In March 2019, WipWare Technical Specialists Marty Wanner and Andrew Palangio visited Rio Tinto Fer et Titane (RTFT)<\/a><\/strong> in Qu\u00e9bec to commission a Momentum 5 Conveyor Particle Analysis System. Working alongside personnel from Rio Tinto and engineering firm BBA<\/a><\/strong>, the team verified the camera installation, established workstation connectivity, and confirmed that the system was operational and collecting particle size data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rio Tinto Fer et Titane (RTFT) has been processing ore from northern Quebec for more than 70 years. It is a world-leading producer of high-grade\u00a0titanium dioxide\u00a0feedstock. This product is commonly used as a pigment to whiten a range of products such as paint, textiles and paper. It also produces iron and steel used in specialized applications such as the automotive industry and wind turbines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Momentum 5 camera assembly had been installed before WipWare's arrival. During the site visit, the technical team inspected the installation and verified the physical connections. The work completed by Rio Tinto personnel was particularly well organized, with careful attention to electrical cabling and equipment placement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once the electrical work was completed, WipWare connected to the system workstation and confirmed communication with the camera. The system was successfully brought online and began transmitting particle size data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following commissioning, training was scheduled to familiarize Rio Tinto personnel with the Momentum 5 system and WipFrag software.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two-day visit was completed successfully through cooperation between WipWare, BBA, and Rio Tinto Fer et Titane. WipWare thanks everyone involved for their assistance and professionalism throughout the commissioning process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February 2021, WipWare supported the installation of an upgraded Momentum 5 Conveyor Particle Analysis System at IAMGOLD's Rosebel Gold Mines<\/strong><\/a> in Suriname, South America. Nearly a decade after WipWare's first installation at the site in December 2011, the Rosebel team returned to WipWare for updated conveyor monitoring technology, demonstrating the value of reliable equipment and long-term technical support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WipWare's relationship with Rosebel Mine began in December 2011 with the installation of a Momentum 3 conveyor particle analysis system. Nearly ten years later, the operation invested in a newer Momentum 5 system, continuing its use of automated particle size measurement technology. At the time of the Momentum 5 installation, Rosebel Gold Mine was operated by IAMGOLD. The operation subsequently became part of Zijin Mining following its acquisition in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new Momentum 5 system was installed near the original equipment, providing a clear comparison between two generations of WipWare technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February 2021, WipWare worked with the Rosebel team to configure the Momentum 5 system. Due to international travel restrictions, the site's personnel performed the installation with remote technical assistance from WipWare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WipWare's technical specialist helped the team configure the system and capture images for analysis, demonstrating how installation support could be delivered even when an on-site visit was not possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Momentum 5 was designed for automated particle size analysis of material travelling on conveyor belts. In addition to particle size distribution (PSD), the system provided measurements of particle shape and estimated material volume, allowing operators to monitor changes in material characteristics over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
