When is the Best Time to Take Pictures of Outdoor Material

By: Kevin DeVuono

Question: When is the best time to take pictures of outdoor material?

Answer: Try and avoid taking images early in the morning or late in the day. During these times, the sun is low and will cause long shadows around the particles (especially oversize). This makes it harder to find an EDP and will increase the amount of time required for manually editing.

It is most ideal to take images late in the morning or early in the afternoon on overcast days. Lighting is usually very even during these times creating a soft, uniform shadow around all particles, which makes finding an EDP very easy and reduces the time required for manually editing.
